Abstract : This paper tries to examine research in Islamic Economics from a Maqasid (purpose) perspective. It is aimed at identifying the Maqasid underpinnings that safeguard quality and purpose of research in Islamic Economics (IE). The study is based upon three broad themes; the first looks at the relationship between scientific research in IE and the purposes (Maqasid) of Shari'ah, the second examines dual process of the scientific research in IE between fundamental purpose and the derived one, and the third looks at the bases of purpose (Maqasid) scientific research for an uplifting economic plan.
